A Uganda- AYV team qualifies for the Adobe Youth Voices (AYV) Summit to be held (July 29-Aug 2), 2009 at Stanford University in Stanford, California, USA

We at SchoolNet Uganda are happy to share with you the good news that one of the twelve Adobe Youth Voices (AYV)–Uganda teams which entered the AYV summit competitions following the competition announcement of our mailing list, qualified for the summit which will be held in California, USA.

Adobe Youth Voices (AYV) is a global philanthropy initiative that empowers youth worldwide to comment on their world using multimedia and digital tools to communicate and share their ideas, demonstrate their potential, and take action in their communities.

Adobe Youth Voices (AYV) initiative engages youth from communities worldwide in exploring and commenting on their world using video, multimedia, digital art, web, animation, and audio.

The world competition which was organized by Adobe Foundation, involved teams from over 30 countries. Each team consisted of one educator and two youth artists and had to submit a youth media product produced with the aim of causing a positive social change.

The Uganda team which qualified produced a documentary of gender-disparity in science education unveiling the hidden causes of the low participation, low retention and poor performance of girls in science, documented the stories of women scientists and best practice in promoting the science education for girls.

The team consisted of three of SchoolNet Uganda student peer educators in the Inspiring Science Education for girls using ICT project.
 

The three Student Peer Educators will be attending the Adobe Youth Voices Summit 2009 at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA, USA, on July 29, 2009, through August 2, 2009.

 Adobe Foundation will meet all the costs of their attendance which includes:

(i) Roundtrip economy class air travel between Entebbe airport and San Francisco International Airport (SFO).
(ii) Accommodations for four (4) nights on campus at Stanford University.
(iii) Ground transportation for all off-campus Summit activities.
(iv) Meals during the Summit.
(v) Summit workshops and excursions.
(vi) Gala Event participation

The Adobe Youth Voices Summit 2009, will bring together educators and youth across borders to share their accomplishments and learn new skills for creating media for social change. Participants will collaborate alongside filmmakers, industry experts and artists during workshops designed to share ideas that will take their AYV projects to the next level. The event will include local excursions and will culminate in an exhibition of AYV work at the Gala event.
