Causes behind vaginal itching are varied but most common known are chemical irritants contained in certain products. Content based chemicals that come in contact with the skin which encourage irritation are detergents, fabric softeners, feminine sprays, ointments, douches, contraceptive foams or jellies. Other causes may include vaginal yeast infection, Vaginitis (inflammation of the vagina), stress, sweat, and STIs

Dear Counselor, I was wondering if the homosexuals and lesbians are born naturally and if not, how do they end up being like that?

There has been much debate about what causes homosexuality and lesbianism. Is there a gay gene? Is homosexuality caused by environmental factors, such as upbringing, child molestation, an absent mother or affectionate father? Or is it something we’re born with, an inherited trait, like skin or hair color? Despite social science and biological research, it is still not known what causes someone to be gay, lesbian, bisexual or straight. Scientists and social scientists will no doubt continue to study the causes of homosexuality in both animals and humans. However it is clear that such practices in schools come as a result of association.

Dear Counselor, I hear about masturbation. What is the meaning of masturbation? Explain for me please.

Masturbation is manipulation of one’s sex/private organs to derive sexual pleasure. The boys stimulate sex pleasure by playing with their penis until they achieve ejaculation and for the girls, they use objects like sex toys, fingers, test tubes and bananas to get pleasure. Whereas it is a safe sex practice, it is associated with addiction; it is antichristian, can lead to injuries, lowers one’s esteem and can lead to other infections like STIs and HIV when those injuries are exposed to HIV infected fluids.

Dear Counselor, how can one control her feelings?

It depends on what kind of feelings one has. Some feelings are good while others are bad. Being a sexuality talk, let us look at the sexual feelings. Your mind can not to be totally off sex it is everywhere so the best thing to do is to get involved in something that will take up your full attention. Things that will keep your mind away from sex, like physical activities, chores, reading or studying stuff like that and mostly if you are a Christian PRAY!

Dear Counselor, I started developing something on my fingers and I don’t know them. They are in sort of scars. What can they be? Advise please!

Sorry for your condition but unfortunately, I can’t be sure without physically seeing them. It could be a simple irritation of the body, or skin reaction or even serious infection. I suggest that you consult a school nurse or anyone for student welfare for medical examination. Never underestimate anything unusual with your life. Get medical attention immediately.

Dear Counselor, there is this boy I really love and he doesn’t care about me because he doesn’t want to respect my body yet there is another one who loves me and cares and even he accepted to abstain yet I have no feelings for him. What should I do?

What you should do is your choice! May be the following can be your thinking points; what is love? What if he pretends and just wants to see my body? Do I need a relationship? Am I ready for a relationship? Can a good relationship thrive for long without sex? What am I expected to do as a girl in a relationship? Any risks associated with that? Anything at stake? What is the right time? With all the above, huddles are still so many to ascertain that any of the two boys will marry you. Your future and safety is more important than any boy! Most successful relationships are those after school.

Dear Counselor, well, I have a boyfriend. We talk and send messages to each other but we have never thought of romancing. We promised to stay together forever. Should I continue in this relationship or I break it?

It’s good that at your level, you are keeping romance out of your relationship. Romance can be associated with many different tragedies more especially to a girl like you. Again, this shows how principled both of you are. It’s good to set principles for everything you do and you stick to them. If you really respect him and he respects you (his and your body) and above all share things like discussion about your careers, life, love, HIV/AIDS, books, gifts, and good behavior and conduct, then it is a healthy relationship. However, you must clearly mark your boundaries and stick to your principles. Effective Communication with the boy in question can guide you all through.

Dear Counselor, what should someone do to gain his /her confidence when talking in public without shaking?

Speech is one of the strongest weapons that one can have. Being confident depends on how much you believe in yourself. However, enough preparation is one key ingredient to public speaking. Where you can’t write the whole speech down, write key points on a small paper and how they will follow each other. This will help you to be organized and systematic.  Be audible enough to avoid bullying by the audience. Avoid distractions to your speech like telling your audience that their questions shall be addressed at the end. Be precise and use simple language. Where you feel some discomfort, take a glass of lemon juice! You can as well read about public speaking. Feel that you are doing the best you can!
