My Experience at the Student Peer Educators eLearning Workshop 2015 by Karungi Angella Kirabo, PMM Girls

I began my journey from home where by my Mum advised me on a number of things; respect because if I give one respect also that person will give me respect, control the words I say because not every person may happy with what I say, to be a good listener and attentive while in the workshop to achieve my dreams because she knows I want to do PCB so that I can become a professional doctor, to be co-operative with others , respect every one and also take good advises and examples from others. If I did the above, I would become successful. I first headed to school where my journey had to begin with my colleague and our teacher.

At school, I had good advice from my teachers and other people at school. The Head teacher gave us a few good words of advice and wished us a good journey and successful workshop.

We left school, took a taxi to Kampala Old Taxi Park and then another taxi to Gayaza town where we then took boda-bodas to Gayaza High School where the student peer educators were to be trained.

At the gate, were directed by the gate keeper to the computer lab where we found the facilitators who happily welcome us. This taught me to always be happy when welcoming people. Mr. Kakinda told us to go for mattresses.

On the zero (reporting) day, I saw that the time- table was followed well and this showed me that this workshop was well planned. After our evening meals we had a briefing from the facilitators and also introduced themselves. The facilitators gave us everything we were to use during the workshop like note books, pens, name tags, toilet papers and others.

Then Mr. Sanyulye talked to us about how we should behave and the reason as to why we had to come to the workshop. We had not come to eat but to acquire knowledge and skills which we had to pass to our peer when we return to our schools.

On Day 1, we planned for the day, had breakfast and we went for warm- ups then we shifted to the computer lab where our lessons were to be conducted.

Mr. Kakinda, the Training Director begun off us by explaining the workshop objectives and what was expected of us as WSWM trained student peer educators and thereafter we had break tea.

We were then introduced to Internet research by the facilitators as a way of searching for health information to enrich our health talk which was very interesting. I now have experience in searching for information on the Internet.

After lunch we had inspirational talks by young people; Mr. Richard Matovu and Mr. Deo Kiberu. From Richard’s inspirational talk, I learnt that we should have knowledge about our future dreams and to be confident in whatever we do. From Deo’s inspirational talk, I learnt that in life we have to be hard working in order to achieve what we want.

On Day 2, I learnt to use presentation software and right now I can to present my work using a projector.

On Day 3, I created a plan for achieving my future dreams and how to solve problems which may come in my way to achieving my dream.

On Day 4, we received instructions on how to make home-made liquid soap which we then made on the night of the first day.

So these are the experiences I have got through four days of the workshop. I thank the facilitators for whatever they have done because am now a changed person. I have experienced to many good things and I promise to use them in order to achieve my dreams and to be a good WSWM student peer educator.
