I arrived at Gayaza High School on Sunday evening. When I got to the gate, the security person welcomed me and directed me to the the Gayaza digital computer lab, the venue of the workshop.
Sunday looked cool, quit, and silent. All participants were busy at the lab listening to the facilitator, Kakinda Daniel.
A warm welcome by the co-facilitators and a sit. Friends of mine who came early smiled at me and I did the same in reply.
Kakinda Daniel, the facilitator, summarized the tasks of the day in five minutes; two assignments given:
Assignment 1: Collect the names, phone numbers and email addresses of all participants and facilitators. Send to all facilitators and all participants, a report of the WSWM activities at your school outlining the successes and success factors, challenges and how you addressed them.
Assignment 2: Choose a topic of your choice in your subject area and do an Internet research. Share by email the links to the Internet resources you have found useful with all the facilitators and participants.
Midnight got me at the ICT lab and left me an experience to remember; most successful people spend much time thinking not talking. The night was short, birds sound, morning light breeze blows, I had more sleep but lt was time to go.
The Monday morning was very beautiful cold cloudy environment, water was too cold, bathing was like a punishment, but I had to keep to task.
Things I can never forget; many teachers never had email addresses, very many didn’t know how to use email, a lot was desired but I learnt how to be responsible, reliable and resourceful by doing my work till I finished and then helped members. I had never written a concept note but got the exposure at the workshop.
Tuesday was yet an interesting day for me because I got new teaching methods like multimedia method, reflection method, discussion etc. that I believe I can integrate in my lessons and encourage my school to use the system in their teaching and learning.
I believe change will be observed. I also acquired basic counseling skills which will help me now, tomorrow and in future to solve youth’s problems in my school and the community.
Finally, the inspirational talks by guest speakers made me so proud and never left me the same.
Beast regards to the WSWM family, WSWM teachers, WSWM facilitators and Kakinda Daniel, the WSWM Director.
