Poverty is one of the Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) that affect young people.
Poverty is a state in which one cannot satisfy his or her basic needs.

My fellow youths, some of the causes that leads to poverty are:

  • (i)   Political instability: Here is where some people in a society struggle and fight for power which leads  to loss of life, rape, destruction of property and many others.
  • (ii)  Natural hazards like landslides and prolonged drought.
  • (iii) Domestic violence: Domestic violence results mainly from one of the partners in a family relationship refusing the other his/her rights. Domestic violence leads to broken families and children of broken families end up in drug abuse, prostitution and in stealing instead of going to school hence in poverty.

My fellow young people, we need to know some of the ways in which we can overcome poverty.

  • (i)  We need to involve ourselves in some small income generating projects like opening up vegetable gardens, rearing some hens etc
  • (ii) We the youth have to work hard and stop minimizing jobs so as to overcome poverty.
  • (iii) We should attend some educational workshops like the World Starts With Me (WSWM) workshops which may help us get skills on how to generate some money and how to overcome the challenges caused by poverty
