I am Alinge George. I represented my school, Teso College Aloet at the National WSWM Student Peer Educator Workshop which was held 16th -20th May 2011 at Gayaza High School.
The activities at the workshop greatly impacted on me in several ways including:
- • Helped me to gain a positive attitude towards the lessons in the World Starts With Me (WSWM) because all the 14 lessons are important to the young people.
- • Widened my sense of directions in all the things I do. They improved my punctuality and performance, something I had never hoped to do as I had to keep to time and to task throughout the workshop.
- • Exposed me to a diverse number of people which helped me to improve my social relationships with people.
- • Built my communication skills, improved my confidence and self-esteem. I can now express my views in different WSWM topics in public without fear of people asking me tough questions.
- • Widened my knowledge on most of the Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) challenges faced by young people and possible solutions to these challenges which gives me a better sense of direction in my life.
- • Exposed me to the global world through the use of the Internet since most of the research is done using the Internet. Using email, I can communicate with people across the globe.
I however felt that one of the SRHR challenges, most boys keep secret; that of development of breasts which tends to keep them off from others for fear of exposure was not discussed in the workshop.
Lastly, the workshop allowed me to freely express my views to all the different people from across the country and for that my only prayer is let God give light and strength to the World Starts With Me club and all its well-wishers to expand it to more schools in the country.
