I am Nalumaga Lillian Grace. I represented my school Gayaza High School at the National WSWM Student Peer Educator Workshop held on 16th -20th May 2011 at Gayaza High School.

The workshop which lasted for five days had a number of activities which impacted on me in a number of ways:

  • •  Helped me to improve my communication skills. I have learned that communication is not only through talking and messages can be communicated in different ways like through skits, poems, body language and role plays.
  • •  Enabled me to interact with fellow peer from all over the country.
  • •  Enabled me to use the Internet in more educative ways beyond mere entertainment.
  • •  Helped me to keep to task because I was always in time for tasks and also handled the assignments given in the time needed without fail.
  • •  Learned how to keep myself busy all the time because it helps me to properly make use of the time and finish all my tasks in time.
  • •  The inspirational talks from the young people inspired me to have a better purpose in life and always to reach out to higher goals in life.
  • •  Helped me to be open-minded because the assignments needed thinking and the fact that I was a secretary in our group kept me focused and thinking fast.
  • •  Helped me to be confident while thinking to people about important issues for example when I had to give my talk about pornography after my research and with all my points, I felt confident.
  • •  Learned more about the Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) challenges facing the young people in our communities and how we can help them.
  • •  Learned how to take advantage of the resources around me and how to make money using all the equipment around me and I also came to appreciate my environment.
  • •  Learned skills of skit production and was able to write a script for our group skit.
  • •  Helped me to teach others what I know and to learn from others what I don’t know.
  • •  Learned more about my body as a woman and was able to dispel some of the myths I had by interacting with experts. I also came to admit some the SRHR challenges I had as a person, talked about them freely and got solutions to some of them.

All in all, the workshop greatly impacted on my life as a young person.
