Diana Nalubega formely a teacher at Dabani Girls SS
I am Nalubega Diana formerly a teacher at Dabani Girls’ secondary school. I am trained to teach Biology and Sports Science but I also teach computer studies at my school.
It is almost two years since I was introduced to SchoolNet Uganda and it has really changed my life since then.
It is true, I knew how to use a computer to do Word-processing, use Spreadsheets, a little bit on presentations, databases and use the Internet to chat, send mail, sms and read newspapers. I did not have an idea that I could use this technology to enhance the teaching-learning process in all subjects. I almost turned down their invitation to my first workshop in Wanyange Girls’ School thinking that I was going to be taught how to use a computer. I was surprised to learn very many things and I felt very ignorant. From then I never want to miss any of their workshops no matter what it takes. I’m actually a convert; I use ICT in my teaching and everyday life. Teaching has suddenly become more interesting and worth doing for a job.
Through SchoolNet, I have been introduced to many networking opportunities for example I had a chance to attend an International conference, eLearning-Africa, in Nairobi, may 2006; I have attended and facilitated a number of workshops; and have an opportunity to belong to useful mailing lists.
This has enriched my CV, increased my self-esteem, improved my presentation skills and has introduced me to many other forms of technology.
Every teacher should know about SchoolNet Uganda.
