Namuganza Stella, formerly a student at Wanyange Girls’ School
My name is Namuganza Stella formerly S.6 student of wanyange Girls’ School.
Am 19 years old .Information Communication Technology (ICT) has really changed many aspects of my life; like before
I did not know much about computers. It was had for me to imagine certain concepts that were taught in science class.
I did not have that big passion for the science subjects since I found them boring.
I did not like the profession of being a teacher but I was inspired by some teachers like Mr. Kakinda Daniel.
I used to only write letters and to communicate with phones only but now I can also use e-mail. I had no ideas of using other ICT gadgets for learning like radios.
I was missing out on style like the animations.
When I attended the Inspiring Science Education for Girls Using ICT Holiday Camp which was organized by SchoolNet Uganda in May 2007,I was able to acquire some skills of electronic communication. I learnt how to use PowerPoint and how to use virtual science labs for my practical work. I also found a way of helping others since I had always longed to help others. With what I had learnt I went back to school and we formed the ICT club at school. Our ICT club was the was the second best in the science fair. We have also produced some tapes and videos as a means of promoting science education for the rural people.
With all that, my life has really changed in that learning became fun, I got new friends, I got good communication skills, am good and first at typing. I am now a person who feels for others and therefore a responsible citizen. Due to the virtual lab I found the UNEB practical of chemistry very easy. I know some good aspects about computer. I love the science with a passion. I feel, am moving with the trend of the Dot com world. I no longer miss out on style. I can now use the radio and CDs for easy revision. I am also a happy girl since I can be invited as a peer educator.
For all these achievements, my thanks go to SchoolNet Uganda and Mr. Kakinda Daniel in particular.
