Dear Counselor, can a girl wash out sperms and prevent unwanted pregnancy by urinating immediately after having unprotected sex?

Submitted by Counselor at SchoolNet on 9th April, 2009

Pregnancy can’t be prevented by a girl urinating after having unprotected sex. Urine exits the bladder through the urethra, which lies above the vaginal opening. This means that any sperm in the vagina won’t even get wet when a girl urinates. Unwanted pregnancy can be prevented by having protected sex. The best way to prevent unwanted pregnancy is to abstain until the right time.

    Dear young lady,
Thank you for raising this concern which has been a myth to many young people.
I wish to inform you that the avenues for sex and urine are different.
Sexual intercourse is performed through the vagina yet urine is passed through the urethra.
It is therefore not true that if a girl has unprotected sex and the goes on to pass urine she will avoid getting pregnant. As long as the girl is in the right time for the egg to be fertilised and then she goes on to have unprotected sex, she definitely will become pregnant.
If you wish to have sex, then it has to be protected sex which is by use of a condom, but the best way out is to abstain and wait for the right time and person to marry.
    Be patient for patience pays.
