Dear Counselor, I am a girl of 16 years in one of the schools in Mbale. What is rape and what should I do in case I am raped?

Rape is having sexual intercourse with a person without the person’s consent. Rape is also having sex with a person who is unable to give consent because she or he is impaired or unconscious e.g. drunk or drugged, physically or mentally challenged.
In case you are raped, a health centre should be your first stop. Ask for post exposure prophylaxis, a drug that must be taken within 72 hours to prevent possible HIV infection and for an emergency pregnancy contraceptive.
Then proceed to the police and report the case. The police will then refer you to a police surgeon who will examine you and make a report.
Rape is a situation where one has sexual intercourse with somebody else without their consent.
It can be a man or woman. Dont be fooled that women dont rape.It can be either.
When one is raped, there are many things that may happen; One of which one may become pregnant(Unwanted pregnance), contract a Sexually transmitted infection (STI)in this case HIV which is very deadly or both and at times be bruised because of the force the person raping you may choose to use.
In case you find yourself in such a situation the first thing to be done is to run to the next clinic and ask for PEP(Post Exposure Prophlaxis) a drug one should take within 72 hours to take care of the situation in case the person who raped her/him is HIV positive.
Secondly ask the medical personnel present to check and confirm that you have really been raped, then let them give you a letter.
Take the letter to the nearest police and ask them to help you pursue the culprit if you saw him clearly or know him then the law will take its course.
In due course you may be produced in courts of law, I request that you are strong and bold and expose the bad man or woman for others to learn.
But before that I want to ask you to be very careful about how, where, when and with whom you move.
