Poem: Pregnancy by Nandutu Sharon and Nyabonyo Doreen of Tororo Universal College

Pregnancy is not a bed of roses
Whether you are ready or not
There is no turning back
Just accept it
When the right time comes, you will like it
As time goes,
It really stars to grow
Vomiting drops in
Commands your selective appetite
No beans, no rice but eggs
Anxiety and joy builds up
Then the bulging belly tells it
Shame
Of having slept naked with someone

Teenage pregnancy is a scare
Everybody points at you
And they laugh
They can’t wait to see
You smiling or crying
And alone you are scared
They know you are a fornicator
The mighty dreams
You one day had
Are now Shattered
No one will Guide and Love You
But a Hand to Hold
Be of good Courage and ….

People will say you are too young
You don’t know what
A special role
Is tucked on you

Be of good cheer
Life your life with Love
Don’t wonder what life really does bring
Accept that you are to have a
Tiny baby, a mother’s bliss
You have a son or a daughter
Plan a future for your baby
Though your life seems ruined
When you give birth
All trauma will be over
Love yourself always and forever
